Shanly Foundation

Supporting local charities and community causes

Shanly Foundation is a grant-giving charity funded by the Shanly Group of companies.

Since 1969, Shanly Foundation and Shanly Group have contributed over £28 million to those in need of a helping hand, from youth clubs, schools, and woodland projects, to centres for adults with physical and learning disabilities. These good causes are primarily based within Buckinghamshire, Berkshire, Hertfordshire, Oxfordshire, West Sussex, Surrey, Kent, and Hampshire.

Shanly Foundation aims to support worthwhile causes across a wide spectrum that benefit the local community including support for:

  • Young people from disadvantaged backgrounds
  • The homeless
  • Mental health
  • People with physical disabilities
  • Life limiting illness

Shanly Foundation is funded entirely by the Shanly Group of companies whose story began in 1969. Since then, Shanly Group and Shanly Foundation have contributed more than £28m to support hundreds of local community groups and charitable organisations. Each year Shanly Foundation now donates over £1.75 million to good causes, providing valuable financial assistance and improving the quality of life for those most in need across our communities in South East England.

Grants

In 2024, while Shanly Foundation remained committed to its core philosophy of being accessible to even the smallest requests, the trustees recognised the pressing needs of applicants facing statutory income cuts and the ongoing cost of living crisis. In response, Shanly Foundation increased both the level and variety of grants awarded. Donations increased by 11% on the previous year with 493 grants awarded to the value of £1.8 million. Notably, the Action Against Homelessness and Training & Careers in Construction funds encouraged applicants to submit multiyear requests, resulting in a significant increase in multiyear grants to over £500,000 – a 167% rise compared to the previous year.
